Nintendo Switch Serial Number

Nintendo had to do some quick sleight of hand when it announceed an $80 price cut on its 3DS portable gaming device less than six months after its launch. To appease disgruntled gamers who had just spent $250 on the now-$170 device, the company offered an open invitation to all pre-price slash 3DS owners for its Ambassador Program, which will reward members with 20 free downloadable games on the platform before the end of 2011.

Ensuring your admittance to the program was as simple as firing up your 3DS and signing into its online eShop by August 11, the day before the price drop went live. 3DS owners quickly learned that there was no confirmation of Ambassador admittance on the 3DS side, you simply had to take Nintendo’s word for it that signing in would set you straight. You can double check just to be sure now though, thanks to an update on the company’s support site.

Simply follow the above link and input your 3DS serial number into the text box. You’ll find it on the back of your portable, located just beneath a SKU code on a little white sticker. It’s an 11-character string, so make sure you enter in that last number as well, the one inside the little box. For the record, I have one of the pre-price cut 3DS’s, I signed onto the eShop the day the Ambassador Program was announced and, sure enough, I’m listed as confirmed.

There may be a time in your life as a Nintendo Switch owner where you need to know the model number of your console. Whether you are trying to put in a repair request with Nintendo or you are trying to determine whether or not there are available hacks for your console, figuring out your model number is incredibly easy to do. Here's how.

At the risk of making your life way too easy, I am going to tell you what the model number of your Switch is. As of May 2018, there is only one model number for the Nintendo Switch, it's HAC-001. Traditionally, Nintendo uses the number 001 to represent a consumer console and the HAC portion represents the Switch. So HAC-001 is the Nintendo Switch consumer console.

Considering the history of Nintendo it is likely that we will see other versions of the Switch in the future. At that time we will likely find that there is a new model number to contend with. If history is any indication, the HAC portion of the model number will change and the 001 will remain the same.

Number

All that being said, if you want to lay your eyes on your model number yourself, it's really easy to do. Simply take your Switch out of the dock and flip it over so that you are looking at the back. Under the large Switch logo, you will see some fine print.

On the top line of text, you will see the Nintendo Support web address. Directly to the right of that, you will find the letters MOD followed by the model number of your Nintendo Switch.

That's all there is to it! If there comes a time when Nintendo decides to release consoles with new model numbers we will be sure to keep you posted. Until then, if you're returning a Switch to Nintendo for repair and they need to know the model number, you know what to say!
