I am trying to install zune onto my dell laptop, which operates on windows 7 64bit. Zune won't install, and it says: 'Can't find the media for installation package 'Windows 7 Portable Device Update'. It might be incomplete or corrupt. Error code: 0x80070002'.

A similar problem happens when attempting to install iTunes. The message 'An error occured during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version='8.0.50727.4053',type='win32',publicKeyToekn='1fc8b3b9a1e`8e3b',processorArchitecture='x86'.
HRESULT: 0X80070422' appears. However, iTunes appears to still install, but won't run. It merely says 'Apple mobile device failed to start. Verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services.'

I have followed the advice given in various forums:

• I have tried changing the compatability mode of zune to windows vista
• checked it is zune (or iTunes respectively) 64bit i am attempting to install
• Checked the BITS and wuauserv file's images paths are '%SystemRoot%System32svchost.exe -k netsvcs' for control sets 001, 002 and current.
• downloaded latest windows updates
• uninstalled iTunes while leaving the Apple mobile device still installed

I don't know what else it could be that is causing the problem. My computer has no corrupt files, which can be found at least, and no fault components. It did have a faulty piece of memory, but it has been replaced about a month ago, and all of the above steps have been tried or retried since. I would guess the problem is related to both of them, as they both express a problem with a mobile device update. Any advice/help/feedback welcome :)
