1. Change the DNS Server to Unblock Websites

Often, the only block that your ISP implements is at the DNS level. The DNS, or Domain Name System, translates IP address numbers into website names. By default, you are using the DNS server controlled by your ISP. If you switch that to a public DNS, you will solve your problem.

The most popular free public DNS servers are:

• Google DNS: 8.8.8.8 | 8.8.4.4
• OpenDNS: 208.67.222.222 | 208.67.220.220
• Comodo DNS: 8.26.56.26 | 8.20.247.20

You can change your DNS server in network settings, and you’ll soon be able to access all those blocked websites.

• On Windows: Go to Network Device and right-click > Click Properties > IPv4 Properties, and then change the DNS servers and click OK.
• On macOS: Go to System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS, and add the new DNS servers, and click OK.
• On Linux: Click the Network applet > Edit Connections > Edit > IPv4 Settings > Automatic (DHCP) addresses only > DNS Servers, and add each new address separated by a comma.

2. Use a Free VPN to Unblock Websites

If you aren’t comfortable messing around with network settings, an alternative method to unblock websites is to use a VPN. A VPN, or virtual private network, masks your IP address’ origin.

I installed my Norton and all my staff, and everything was fine, except uTorrent. I was unable neither install it nor download torrent files from Internet - only torrent files, other files were OK.
Neither advice about Firewall not helped me, I tried some other torrent clients - same, until I found advice about qBittorrent client. My Norton let it in, and let it be
on allowed firewall list (controlled by Norton). By the way, I found some articles about pirate torrents problems, which some author rights corp. owners try to fight
with sights blocking, also some torrent clients try to make unauthorized changes
on computers (I've seen it with uTorrent).
So, it seems better to get a right torrent client, which will pass Antivirus and spam

hello there , Nice article .
i am in a totally different situation now.
i can't torrent with my normal IP , so i used Softether to change the VPN and the problem gone. but ive got only few data left and by using this VPN method, data consumes much faster and am getting only half of the download traffic.
( if my pc gets 200 kb/s , softether uses 100 kb/s and torrent uses 100 kb/s )

why can't i download with my normal IP ? , why do i need to change to different IP in other country ?
is it because my service provider blocking me ? if so
is there any work around for not loosing too much data with the VPN method

I think the best one right now is filestream.me. Though it gives you only 1GB per torrent(still its enough) ,it downloads super-fast and has no blocking or throttling.

  I am my VPN is running then I set up the proxy in the Utorrent connecting tab as the link above shows.
  
• no need to use both VPN and proxy. just use the VPN.
  you'll probably want to enable port forwarding and connect to a port forwarding server. Then you copy/paste the port the app gives you into the listening port of utorrent.

• i stopped using utorrent but it wont let me uninstall it for some reason and started using bittorrent and its working perfectly fine, is there any other suggestions other then a proxy to increase my anonymity? i unchecked upnp port maping, nat pmp port mapping and enable local peer discovery as i have read around and people say to do that but is there anything else? i also used the check my IP torrent file i got from vpntopten.com/checkmyip and it is showing the new IP i got from PIA so it seems like its all working well. also ive used 3 different websites {dnsleaktest.com, iplocation.net and speedtest.net} to check if i am using the PIA IP and it says i am so im just curious if theres anything else i could do?

  yeah I would think it's legit, I got it off there website. I deleted every file of it but the name is in the setting where you uninstall stuff on windows 10. It says unavailable above the name.

• Sadly antiviral software is all but useless. Take a virus it knows about and change any single bit of it and it does not recognize it as malware at all.
  Any software that cannot uninstall itself despite being designed to do that is a huge red flag to me. But if you feel it is safe, then fine. I will not argue.
  If you intend to use the VPN, you should probably take a moment to kill off IPv6 since the VPN only uses IPv4. Other than that, I know of nothing else you should do.
  
• yeah, i found out how to unistall it, i downloaded it before i updated my windows 10 so i think that was the issue but i found out how to uninstall it. and i have IPv6 leak protection on for PIA, should i keep it checked or no?

  alright, thanks a lot, big help. one more thing, should i use the 128 encryption or 256. i know the 256 is a stronger encryption but is it necessarry?

• I'm having problems with qBittorrent at the moment. I've never used port forwarding before and it was working fairly well (maybe the speeds could have been better) but maybe the changes made in response to the Port Fail issue mean I have to use port forwarding now? Anyway, in qBitTorrent it had the port defaulted to 6881. In the PIA client (now upgraded to v.53) if I tick Port Forwarding it doesn't work unless I also enter a Local Port, so I put 6881 in there but then the tooltip shows the Forward Port as 40380, so I put that in qBittorrent instead. Obviously I don't really know what I'm doing! What should I use for Local Port? I guess I need to create incoming rules in my firewall as well but do I create them for both the Local Port and the port that the client picks?
• The PIA client generates a random port for you when you use the Port Forward option. You should only use that port in your torrent clients. Bear in mind that some torrent clients are odd in that you have to restart them entirely before the change takes effect.

• By re-enabling the SOCKS5 proxy, I'm getting some activity now but it still shows 0 DHT nodes, so something's not right.
• I installed the PIA client and qbittorrent on my Host to compare it to running in the Virtualbox guest and the only thing I noticed in the log is that it shows '17/12/2015 02:22 - UPnP/NAT-PMP: Port mapping successful, message: successfully mapped port using UPnP. external port: 8999' which it doesn't on the guest. So for some reason the guest can't use UPnP. Note I'm not using Port Forwarding in the PIA client on either the Host or the Guest at the moment, so this is just the port qbittorrent is set to use. It was working fine before and I presume it's never been able to UPnP map the port in the guest, so I wonder if this can be the problem now.

If I disable the SOCK5 proxy in qbittorrent though, I do see '20/12/2015 01:06 - UPnP/NAT-PMP: Port mapping successful, message: successfully mapped port using UPnP. external port: 6991' in the log, just like when I run it on the Host but it still isn't working in the Virtualbox guest and works fine on the Host.
• Well for some reason it's working again today. I rolled back the PIA client to v46 yesterday but it didn't help then, even after a reboot so I really don't know what the problem or the solution was.
