Despite being a portable game, its quality encouraged players around
the world to start signing online petitions for the game to be released
outside Japan; this is the case of both Operation Suzaku, and Project Crystallis. However, Square Enix remains silent and nowadays the possibilities of an official USA release for the PSP are minimal.
This is why I’m started working on this fan translation project, so
all fans can enjoy this wonderful game. It all started on 01/01/2013 but
since then, some skilled Japanese translators and proofreaders have
joined me; otherwise the project would have been impossible, as I can’t
speak Japanese.
Our objective is to bring a high quality localization for the game,
from text translation, to image and video edition. Although we are not
considering the inclusion of English voice over at this point, we do
plan to add some enhancements such as UMD Merging, or faster loading
times without data installation.
– Patcher Download
The automatic patcher is all you need to translate your copy of Final
Fantasy Type-0. Just make and ISO dump of either UMD (you can also use
the Merged ISO)
and select it after clicking the “patch” option. Then choose where to
save the patched ISO Image and wait for the patcher to generate it.

– Know issues and possible fixes
I’ve received extensive feedback from fans playing the game with our
patch, and some of them are experimenting issues that, in most cases can
easily be fixed tweaking their PSP’s. I’ll go through the most common:
After starting a new game I get a black screen instead of the intro video: videos are not playing! (I can skip them anyway)
This is a CFW related issue: most CFW can only address 2 GB of data
inside the ISO file, and many video files in the patched ISO are indeed
after that 2 GB limit.
In order to fix this issue, use the CFW PRO C2 with the inferno UMD Driver; that one can handle bigger ISO’s just fine
My game won’t boot! All I can see is the initial “Loading…” screen, but it never finishes loading!
Again, this is CFW related, caused by an outdated UMD driver. The
same solution applies: Install PRO C2 and use the inferno UMD Driver.
The game freezes in certain areas (or while booting)… Or some menus (namely the Crimson Codex) are not showing correctly!
Type-0 is a very hardware demanding game, specially for the original
PSP-1000 model. It’s even more demanding after applying the translation
patch, so it’s important to play it with a clean PSP, or it won’t have
enough resources to load certain files.
In most cases, this issue is due to plugins taking extra resources
from the PSP. Try disabling them. If the problem persist, it may be due
to CFW customizations, in this case, I’d recommend reinstalling your
CFW.
Everything works but videos are choppy!
Just like the previous issue, this is due to extra overhead in the
PSP (a very slow, or fragmented MS can also cause it). Try formatting
your MS and installing the game again.
